For a medical emergency, call 911. Parents should request the ambulance take a son or daughter under age 19 to a hospital that has a pediatric psychiatric unit so the youth is NOT placed with adult patients. Facilities around Boston are Children's Hospital, Metro West Medical Center and Franciscan Hospital for Children.
For the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, available 24 hours a day, every day, call 1-800-273-TALK (8255). You will reach a service available to anyone. You may call for yourself or for someone you care about.
Another resource is Samariteens. From 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays, and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekends, this service is staffed by volunteers between the ages of 15 and 18; outside those hours, calls are answered by adult volunteers. 1-800-252 TEEN (8336)
