Artwork by Jerome Lawrance: Diagnosed with a mental illness while studying art at Georgia State University in 1982, Jerome Lawrence has struggled to find his way back from the edge of insanity to the accomplished artist that he is today. Although he still suffers from his illness, Jerome feels so blessed to be able to share the beauty of his art with the world that he seizes every opportunity to serve as a role model and speak on behalf of programs designed to help the public understand art and illness. Jerome has worked along side Linda Fuller in the Habitat for Humanity program, and presented with Rosalynn Carter on self expression and mental illness at the Carter Center where he appeared on CNN news with President Jimmy Carter. President Carter, himself an artist, has high praise for Jerome’s work. Jerome is presently featured in a public service announcement sponsored by Eli Lilly. The 30 second TV spots present notable Georgia residents who have overcome mental illness to realize some truly remarkable goals. Jerome’s work has even been seen atop the Westin Hotel in Atlanta while being shown, with art from Skyland Trail, in the famous Sun Dial Restaurant.

MHSIP Consumer Survey

Electronic Health and Personal Record Conformance Profile Workgroup

The MHSIP Consumer Survey Module allows adults, youth, and families to indicate what they think about the services they or family members received, the people who provided them, and the results. Public mental health agencies and other organizations can use the Module to enter data from paper surveys or upload electronic files of individual or aggregated data. The Module contains the Official Adult Survey (Version 1.1 February 2000), the Final Youth Services Survey (June 2001), and the Final Youth Services Survey for Families (June 2001).  These surveys were developed by the Mental Health Statistics Improvement Project.

The DS2000+ Initiative is developing a conformance profile that will standardize the way mental health and substance abuse treatment information is handled in electronic health and personal records.  Representatives from across the behavioral health community are presently participating in an online balloting and reconciliation process that will produce these record standards.  The final profile will be sent to Health Level 7, the national organization chosen by the government to define the overall health record standards.

Outcomes Measurement Workgroup

Federal Employee Assistance Program Survey

The DS2000+ Outcomes Measurement Workgroup is developing recovery-oriented domains, data elements, and instruments for measuring and reporting consumer outcomes. These items will inform both the DS2000+ Outcomes Data Standards and the DS2000+ Outcomes Measurement and Reporting Module. This web page is currently accessible only to Workgroup members, but will shortly be opened for review of the draft Data Standards and Module content.

The Federal Employee Assistance Program (EAP) used the DS2000+ tools and platform to develop and pilot test surveys for a Reporting System on the performance and quality of Federal EAPs. The System will provide online analysis of data on utilization rates and client/customer satisfaction. Following the pilot test with a number of Federal agencies, the System will be refined for full implementation across the Federal government.

URS Data Sharing Workgroup

    Adolescent Wellness Portal

The Uniform Reporting System (URS), sponsored by the Center for Mental Health Services and coordinated by the NASMHPD Research Institute, is a collaborative effort between the Federal government and state mental health agencies to create a national profile of the provision of mental health services.  The Northeast Regional Users Group (ONEMHSIP) of the Mental Health Statistics Improvement Program (MHSIP) developed and is using this web page to pilot test processes for sharing URS data. The web page is accessible only to states who have agreed to share their URS data.

The Adolescent Wellness Portal provides parents and schools with resources related to adolescent mental health and wellness including a guide to help parents when a child is referred for psychiatric hospitalization and a starter kit to help schools integrate a preventive mental health curriculum into their existing health programs in grades 7 through 12.  This effort is a collaboration between Children's Hospital Boston, McLean Hospital, and the Sidney A. Swensrud Foundation.

CPSS Survey

The Idaho MHSIP Consumer Survey

The Center for Mental Health Services' Client/Patient Sample Survey produces national estimates on treatment satisfaction and outcomes for adult consumers who receive mental health services in State and county mental hospitals, private psychiatric hospitals, non-Federal general hospitals, VA medical centers, multi-service mental health organizations, and freestanding outpatient clinics and partial care organizations.  The Survey is currently being revised for online administration.

The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare (IDHW) uses this web page to enter MHSIP Consumer Surveys from seven participating regions across the state. IDHW staff use the DS2000+ tools to analyze and report the data to state and Federal agencies. The site is accessible only to selected IDHW personnel.

NACBHD Survey

Online Recovery Instruments

The National Association of County Behavioral Health and Developmental Disability Directors used the DS2000+ platform and tools to build and conduct a survey of member and non-member county-sponsored mental health authorities. Their survey is designed to describe county behavioral health and developmental disability authorities and determine the current capacity of county authorities to measure outcomes and implement evidence-based practices.

The DS2000+ Initiative, in partnership with the Recovery Development Workgroup and the NASMHPD Research Institute, is refining and pilot testing two recovery measures: the Recovery Oriented System Indicators (ROSI) and the Recovery Measurement Tool (RMT).  The site currently contains documents related to this effort.
