Artwork by Jerome Lawrance: Diagnosed with a mental illness while studying art at Georgia State University in 1982, Jerome Lawrence has struggled to find his way back from the edge of insanity to the accomplished artist that he is today. Although he still suffers from his illness, Jerome feels so blessed to be able to share the beauty of his art with the world that he seizes every opportunity to serve as a role model and speak on behalf of programs designed to help the public understand art and illness. Jerome has worked along side Linda Fuller in the Habitat for Humanity program, and presented with Rosalynn Carter on self expression and mental illness at the Carter Center where he appeared on CNN news with President Jimmy Carter. President Carter, himself an artist, has high praise for Jerome’s work. Jerome is presently featured in a public service announcement sponsored by Eli Lilly. The 30 second TV spots present notable Georgia residents who have overcome mental illness to realize some truly remarkable goals. Jerome’s work has even been seen atop the Westin Hotel in Atlanta while being shown, with art from Skyland Trail, in the famous Sun Dial Restaurant.
